Who we are

Helpthispet.com (“we”, “us”, “the site”) publishes articles about pet care, behaviour and health. This page explains what information the site collects when you visit, why, and what control you have over it.

The site is operated from Morocco and is read by people around the world. We aim to meet the standards of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), and Moroccan Law 09-08 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data.

The short version

  • We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not sell anything on this site.
  • The only thing you type in is the contact form, and what you send there is emailed to us and nothing else.
  • We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
  • We use Google Analytics to understand which articles people read. This is the main way data about you is collected.
  • We use a contact form; what you send there is emailed to us and used only to reply.
  • We plan to show advertising and use affiliate links in future. This policy already describes how those work, so you know what to expect.

What we collect

The only place this site asks you to type anything is the form on our contact page. There is no newsletter sign-up, no account registration, and no comment section.

Information is collected in four ways.

1. Analytics data

We use Google Analytics 4, connected through the Site Kit by Google plugin, to see how the site is used. It collects:

  • pages you visit and how long you spend on them
  • approximate location, derived from your IP address (city or region level, not your exact address)
  • device type, browser, operating system and screen size
  • how you arrived at the site — for example a Google search, a link from another site, or typing the address directly

Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to recognise a returning visit. Google states that it anonymises IP addresses for GA4 properties, so we do not have access to your full IP address through this tool.

You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely, on every site that uses it, by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

2. What you send through the contact form

The form on our contact page asks for your name, email address, phone number and message. Only the message is required — you can leave the phone field blank, and we would rather you did unless you specifically want a call back.

What is submitted is emailed to contact@helpthispet.com and goes nowhere else. It is not added to a mailing list, not used for advertising, not shared with anyone, and not sold. We keep the correspondence in that mailbox for as long as it is useful for answering you and for any follow-up, and delete it when it is not.

The legal basis is your consent: you decide what to type and whether to press send. If you would like a message and our reply deleted, email us and say so.

Please do not send sensitive information through this form. It is an ordinary email form, not a secure channel, and we have no need for anything beyond the details of your pet’s situation.

3. Server logs

Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which record IP addresses, the pages requested and the time of the request. These are used for security, to diagnose faults and to detect abuse. We do not use them to build any profile of you.

4. Fonts and page assets

Typefaces and other page assets are served from our own server rather than fetched from a third party, so loading a page here does not hand your IP address to a font provider. If that ever changes, this page will say so.

Cookies

A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser. This site uses:

You can delete existing cookies and block future ones through your browser settings. Blocking analytics and advertising cookies will not stop you reading anything on the site.

Advertising

We intend to display adverts through Google AdSense. This section describes how that will work once it is live.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve adverts based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve adverts to you based on your visit to our site and other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.

Opting out means you will see less relevant adverts, not fewer adverts.

Affiliate links and how we make money

Some articles contain or will contain affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

A commission never determines what we recommend. Recommendations are based on the research cited in each article, and the reasoning is stated in the article itself so you can judge it yourself. Any article containing affiliate links will say so clearly at the top.

We are not paid by manufacturers, brands or veterinary companies to write about their products, and we do not accept payment for placement or for positive coverage.

Legal bases for processing (EU and UK visitors)

Where GDPR applies, we rely on:

  • Consent — for analytics and advertising cookies, where consent is required in your jurisdiction. You may withdraw consent at any time by clearing cookies and using the opt-outs above.
  • Legitimate interests — for server logs and basic security, on the basis that keeping the site working and protected is a reasonable expectation and has minimal privacy impact.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • ask what personal data we hold about you
  • ask for a copy of it
  • ask us to correct or delete it
  • object to or restrict how it is used
  • withdraw consent you previously gave
  • ask us not to sell or share your personal information — note that we do not sell or share personal information, as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA
  • complain to a data protection authority: your local supervisory authority in the EU, the ICO in the UK, or the CNDP in Morocco

To make a request, email contact@helpthispet.com. We will respond within 30 days. For anything you sent us through the contact form, we can find it by your email address. For analytics, we hold no name or account that would let us link that data to you personally — where that is the case we will tell you so rather than guess.

Data retention

Google Analytics data is retained according to the retention period set in our Google Analytics property. Server logs are retained by our host for a limited period for security and diagnostic purposes. We do not maintain any separate database of visitor information.

International transfers

Our service providers, including Google, process data on servers outside Morocco, including in the United States and the European Union. Where data originating in the EU or UK is transferred, those providers rely on their own approved transfer mechanisms, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

This site is written for adults who look after pets. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. We keep WordPress, its theme and its plugins updated. No website can promise absolute security, and we do not claim to.

Medical and veterinary disclaimer

Articles on this site are general information, researched against published veterinary sources and cited where relevant. They are not veterinary advice and are not a substitute for examining your individual animal. If your pet is unwell, contact your vet.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially — for example when advertising goes live — we will update the date at the top of this page. We recommend checking it occasionally.
