Ask Us Anything
We read every message. If you’re asking about a specific pet, include the species, age, and what you’ve noticed so far — it saves a round trip. For anything urgent or medical, contact your vet first; we can’t diagnose and won’t pretend to.

What to include when you write in
We answer a lot of messages, and the ones we can actually help with tend to have the same few things in them. If you are asking about a specific animal, this saves a round of back-and-forth:
- Species, age and rough breed. A twelve-year-old cat and a nine-month-old puppy doing the same thing usually mean different things.
- When it started, and whether it came on suddenly. Sudden changes matter more than gradual ones.
- What has changed around the animal. New home, new pet, new person, building work, a different food.
- What you have already tried. Saves us suggesting the thing that did not work.
What we can and cannot help with
| Happy to help | Not something we can do |
|---|---|
| Pointing you to the research on a behaviour or symptom | Telling you what is wrong with your animal |
| Explaining what a study actually found | Interpreting your pet’s test results or x-rays |
| Corrections to anything we have published | Recommending doses, medicines or treatments |
| Suggestions for topics to cover | Second-guessing advice your vet has given you in person |
Corrections
If you think something we have published is wrong, we want to hear it. Send the article and what you believe is incorrect, and a source if you have one. We would rather fix an article than defend it, and significant corrections are noted on the page itself.
Topic suggestions
The best article ideas we get come from readers describing a specific situation rather than a general subject. “Write about cat behaviour” is hard to use. “My cat started sleeping in the bath and I cannot work out why” is the kind of thing we can go and research properly.
